August 8, 1867 is the actual date that Cheyenne became an incorporated city and so the entire community, along with guests and former residents, are welcome to two opportunities to commemorate the day.
If you can only attend one celebration of Cheyenne’s sesquicentennial, this is the one you don’t want to miss! Bring your lunch and come be part of the festivities as Mayor Orr and the City Council dedicate a time capsule commemorating this auspicious moment in our history. Items for the time capsule will be determined by Cheyenne’s youth, as they select items they believe will have impact when the capsule is opened in 2067 at Cheyenne’s bicentennial celebration.
The day will also include opening of the centennial time capsule, along with games, history displays and reenactments from Cheyenne’s history. Period costumes are welcome, as you join the community in commemorating our founding while looking forward to our future.
