Desiree Brothe
Desiree is a visual artist based in Cheyenne. She has been practicing artmaking for over 25 years, working in an array of mediums to achieve her desired level of play, experimentation, and variety in creation.
Desiree's work often falls into two categories: production art and personal art. Most of her production art focuses on birds and is offered for sale at various local locations. In this work, she explores new and different ways to depict birds based on their size, shape, personalities, and textures. Her favorites are often from the Corvid species, but she also loves local songbirds and backyard birds.
In her personal work, Desiree spends time exploring her surroundings through the interplay of emotion and an interpretation of the world using parallel or surreal concepts. She is constantly evaluating how much she wants to push the boundaries of these ideas and often redefines what that means to her.
Professionally, Desiree serves as the Executive Director of Arts Cheyenne, Cheyenne's local arts council, and runs an arts consulting business, Magpie Consulting. In both roles, she works with emerging and professional artists, providing education, programming, and sustainable resources for artists to learn and grow.
